Slow Callers: An Eternal Sigh of Frustration

Are you fed up with waiting for slow callers to get their act together and actually start talking? Then you’re not alone. Slow callers have been frustrating the patience of people for way too long. It’s time to fast forward our way to a solution for this issue.

“Slow Callers” – A Pleasure?

We all know them, the slow callers. The folks that take what feels like an eternity to actually start talking. Don’t get us wrong, it’s nice to catch up with the person on the other end of the line, but do we really need to spend more than 10 minutes on “hellos” and small talk? The answer is a hard no.

Sometimes there’s the person that just likes to keep talking without any intention of concluding the conversation, ever. And then there’s the one that needs a long time to think before delivering any words, leaving you wondering if the person is still alive. Neither of these examples can be described as a pleasure to interact with.

Being on the phone for more than 30 minutes without any meaningful conversation is a waste of time. It’s the 21st century and nobody has time for that anymore.

Fast Forwarding Your Frustration

So, how can we tackle this problem? There is no one-size-fits-all answer, but there are certainly a few tricks we can use to fast forward our way out of a slow conversation.

The first option is to nudge the person gently and insist on getting to the point of the call. Politely pointing out that you’re in a hurry can help get the other person to focus on the issue and speed up the conversation.

The second option is to set a time limit. It might sound rude, but it’s actually better for everyone. Gently remind the other person that you have other commitments to attend to and suggest a time limit for the call. Of course, this only works if the other person is willing to cooperate.

The last option is to just cut the call and call back later. If all else fails, this is usually the best way to go.

Nobody likes to be stuck in a slow conversation. Taking the necessary steps to avoid this type of situation can save you a lot of time and frustration. It’s time to fast forward our way out of this problem, leaving slow callers in the dust.
